<p>Exhibition of Akbar Mijit</p>

<p>Akbar Mijit was born in Kashgar, an ancient city on the Silk
Road in the area now known as the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region
of China. As an artist, he was inspired by the vibrant colours and
richness of the landscape of his homeland and his dramatic oil
paintings express his love of his people and their culture.</p>

<p>The show is curated by Sally Mijit.</p>

contemporary Mongolian painters working in the academic tradition
and was chairman of the Union of Mongolian Artists until December
2004.</p>

<p>Born in 1959 and educated at art schools in Ulaanbataar and St
Petersburg he is technically highly gifted. He focuses on the
subjects that are so traditional in Mongolian art; landscapes,
still life's, history and Shamanism.</p>

<p>His paintings are precise yet executed in such soft tones and
gentle brushstrokes.</p>

at this current (2009) joint exhibition at the James Hockey &amp;
Foyer Galleries, Farnham together with John Allen's colourful and
celebratory response to his travels in the Himalayas, a highly
sensitive area of ecological world importance.</p>
