The
Sweet Tea House - Contemporary Tibetan Art Gallery opened
in October 2003.
The Director Gonkar Gyatso is one of the founders of well
known artists group in Tibet - The Sweet Tea House Artists
Association. He has chosen to name the gallery after this
association as a continuation of the idea of “The Sweet
Tea House Artists Association”, formed in Lhasa in 1985.
The gallery is dedicated to promote contemporary Tibetan
art and brings together some of the coming young talents by
exhibiting their works. The hope is not only to focus on art
created inside Tibet but also to bring together Tibetan artists
from all the parts of the world, regardless of their political
stand, situation, background, and education. It is the first
gallery of this kind in the West.
The gallery has also a collection of books, journals and
articles which are at disposal. It is situated in the east
of London, the heart of London’s art scene. |
